Why American Conservatism is such bullshit.
So the traditional definition of conservatism is to preserve the status quo and trust the individual to make their own choices? Well the GOP was revitalised only 58 years ago and only because of a book. At the end of the 40s conservatism was dead, blamed for the great depression and pearl harbour (replace great depression with 2008 economic crash, Pearl Harbour for 9/11 to note how nothing’s changed). The New Deal created by the democrats (read Obama) gradually created growth along with lend lease. Then in 1953 Russell Kirk wrote The Conservative Mind which would go on to inspire Ronald Reagan.
Only after ‘53 do you see religion creep into political doctrine. They used the fact that America was the only mass producer of goods following the war as evidence that they couldn’t fail, and the fear of communism to make a naive public believe they were the only option.
More evidence that our parents and grandparents fucked everything up and left us to pick up the pieces. Yet will still believe these political parties will get us out of this problem?
